Join the three NCTA Chapters of North Dakota – Central Flyway, Sheyenne River Valley, and Dakota Prairie – for a weekend-long festival! The event kicks off on Friday, May 20 with a Lisbon historical hike, and a variety of events will be offered throughout the weekend.

Friday, May 20

  • Lisbon Historical Hike, 4:00 p.m. Meet at the Dakota Prairie Chapter kiosk at the Veterans Home (1600 Veterans Drive). Park in the parking lot, hike four miles out-and-back. Included is a tour of the 111-year-old historic Scenic Theater, the only continuous running movie theater in America.
  • Picnic, 6:00 p.m. Bring food for yourself and your family, as well as chairs or other seating, to Sandager Park.
  • Movie, 7:30 p.m. Thanks to an anonymous donor, the Scenic Theater has been secured for a viewing of “A Walk in the Woods” (starring Robert Redford, Nick Nolte, and Emma Thompson). Cost is $8.

Saturday, May 21

  • Hill and Valley Hike, 9:00 a.m. Meet at the Dakota Prairie Chapter kiosk at the Veterans Home (1600 Veterans Drive). Park in the parking lot, hike five (moderate) miles out-and-back.
  • Lunch and Workshop, 12:00 p.m. Bring your bag lunch to the Sandager Park pavilion and enjoy a trail maintenance workshop.
  • Afternoon Option: Historic Hike, 1:30 p.m. Meet at Ranes Bridge and hike four miles out-and-back to Okiedan Mounds.
  • Dinner at the Market, 6:00 p.m. Dine at the Market in downtown Lisbon ($12) and afterward, participate in a tour of the Historic Opera House at 7:00 p.m.

The canoe/kayak option on the Sheyenne River Water Trail has been canceled due to dangerously high water levels in the Sheyenne River.

Sunday, May 22

  • Biesterfeldt Historic Site Hike, 9:30 a.m. Meet at the west trailhead on County Road 54. Experience a National Historic Landmark that intersects with the North Country National Scenic Trail: the Old Cheyenne Indian Village (1724-1780). Following the hike, the McLeod Museum (five miles east on State Road 27) will be open for participants to view a model of the Cheyenne Earthen Lodge.

If you plan to participate in some or all of the events, please RSVP by May 1 to a Chapter Leader. (Contact information listed below.) You may also sign up for events on the respective Meetup site.
