Hike the Escarpment trail in the Porcupine Mountains State Park with the NCTA Ni-Miikanaake Chapter!

We’ll hike this trail from Lake of the Clouds to the Government Peak Trailhead and Parking Lot. This is a one-way hike, about 4 miles. We’ll meet at the Government Peak Trailhead and organize shuttling to Lake of the Clouds, so people will be hiking back to their cars.

The Escarpment Trail runs along the ridge of the Porcupine Mountains, and offers expansive views of the Park and Lake Superior. The trail is rocky in places. Overall we’ll be hiking downhill, but there are some hills along the way. The trail and the trailheads are likely to be quite busy.

Bring water (no water sources along the trail), snacks, and bug repellant. Pets are OK if leashed. Restrooms are available at Lake of the Clouds.

The Government Peak Trailhead is 3.5 miles west of the corner of Hwy 107 and South Boundary Road. Coordinates are 46.82468, -89.69475.

This is a fairly challenging trail, with rocky spots. It will feature beautiful views of the Park and Lake Superior. Note we are hiking on the Escarpment Trail, but meeting at the Government Peak Trail(head).

Some of us will go to the Porkies Outpost restaurant, about 3 miles east of the GP Trailhead, for refreshments afterwards.
