Sawyer Certification, Chainsaw and Crosscut
USFS Sawyer certification course with the Superior Hiking Trail Association. The course will be comprised of classroom sessions and field evaluation. Chainsaw on Saturday, April 20 and crosscut on Sunday, April 21. You can choose one or both classes.
Participants MUST be First Aid and CPR certified or be enrolled in a class in the near future. The class is required to be at least partly in person (not all online), and must be either Red Cross or AHA. WFA or WFR certification qualifies. Please bring your FA/CPR, WFA, or WFR card(s) to the class, or your registration for an upcoming class. You will not be issued a sawyer certification until you have provided this information.
In order to use a chainsaw or crosscut on the SHT or NCT, you must also be enrolled as an NPS VIP. To register as a VIP, click here.
In addition, you must complete Trail Safe! before you cut on the Trail by clicking here.
You will need to bring your own chainsaw and saw kit and PPE (leather boots, gloves, eye protection, hard hat, chaps). If you do not have chaps or hard hat, please contact bbudd@superiorhiking.org.
