On Wednesday the 14th the Wampum Chapter will be hosting a crew of Student Conservation Association volunteer students for a trail work/maintaining event at Beaver Creek State Park. Chapter members are encouraged to help with this event.

Our plan is to work on re-benching the North Country Trail pathway just west of the RC Airfield, behind the Pretty Boy Floyd marker on Sprucevale Rd. We’ll stay loose though, and support the SCA program plans for that day.

Here is their Eventbrite announcement for that day’s activities:

Come learn how to build and maintain trails from folks who love to do it!
The group will hike 2-3 miles during the day, with multiple breaks to discuss trails and trail maintenance and analyze common trail problems as they arise. We will have a mix of staff, volunteers, and an active trail crew with us for a variety of perspectives on all your questions about trails. Volunteer waivers will be available to sign on-site.

Organizers will provide:

  • Hand tools to complete maintenance projects
  • Gloves, helmets, sunscreen, and other PPE
  • Snacks

Come prepared with your own:

  • Lunch
  • At least 2L of water
  • Comfortable, durable closed-toe footwear suitable for hiking and using tools
  • Long pants to protect your legs
  • Backpack to carry your supplies in
  • Questions & curiosities
