Interesting newspaper article in Fargo Forum about Clausen Springs Dam in Kathryn, ND

You might be wondering “What does this news story have to do with the North Country Trail?”  Well, the easy answer is “as the dam goes so goes the North Country Trail!”   The faint trail visible on top of the dam in the picture above is our beloved North Country Trail.

Officials in Kathryn, Barnes County, and North Dakota are struggling with what to do with the flood-damaged Clausen Springs Dam, which hosts the North Country Trail on its journey around Clausen Springs Lake.  Hikers who visited the area during the NCTA’s 2009 conference in Valley City were able to witness the damage (see photo below).
