Itasca Moraine, Star of the North Chapter, and Chippewa National Forest’s Winter Trails Day event at Shingobee Recreation Area. Here is what Bruce Johnson had to say about the snowshoe hike
“There were 6 of us, Brian, Carter, Darrel, Harlan, Ray from the USFS & yours truly. We snowshoed from Cass Co 50 to the Shingobee Chalet at the base of the “hill.” Conditions were ideal, temp at about 8 F and higher as we went, cloudless, snow piled on the tree limbs 5 or 6 inches deep with “back light” coming through the Norway & Cedar crowned forest. Ray pointed out where, a day or so earlier, he had groomed the ski trails and “erased” all sorts of timber wolf tracks. Just off the trail we saw where they had “marked” their territory by urinating on trees. He also pointed out where they found a dead wolf last year; it had apparently died of mange.”
