Intro to Geocaching, Middleville
New this year to the NCTA Chief Noonday Chapter‘s Hike the County Challenge is geocaching!
Geocaching is a type of treasure hunting hobby that uses GPS coordinates to help searchers find “treasures” hidden by volunteers along the NCNST (and many other hiding places). You download an app on your phone to guide you toward the treasure you are seeking, and then the searching starts!
Our hope is to make hiking more exciting and fun for families and tech savvy folks. This event is open to anyone, but reservations are requested: Email geohikethecounty@gmail.com. Once you RSVP, we will email you the specific location prior to the event. Three meetups are being held. This one (March 13) is in the NCTA Trail Town of Middleville (Michigan). There will be one next week in Augusta, and a third in the NCTA Trail Town of Marshall. You only need to attend one.
Please download the geocaching app prior to the event. We will have a short session on general caching techniques, then will head out as a group to find one. Families, youth, anyone is welcome! To earn a patch and certificate, you will need to find 10 different caches during 2022.
