If you have been hiking Michigan, and traveling further away to get NCNST miles, consider that NCNST miles in Ohio are closer than some of our Michigan miles. This month at the NCTA Chief Noonday Chapter meeting, you will help get you Ohio NCNST savvy, as we hear from two seasoned, multi-state, NCNST hikers.

Featured Speakers: Randall Roberts (OH) and Carol Wozniak (MI)

• Randall Roberts began hiking the 1,400-mile Buckeye Trail (BT) in Ohio in November 2008. After hiking a little at a time on weekends, he finished the trail in its entirety on May 20, 2017. Because the BT shared about 875 miles with the North Country National Scenic Trail (NCNST) at the time (now 932 miles), he was on his way to completing the NCNST in Ohio and soon made that his goal. Since then he has not only completed the NCNST in Ohio but has also finished the trail in Pennsylvania. He has also hiked all of the American Discovery Trail (ADT) in Ohio and Kentucky. He is currently hiking the trail in New York and Michigan as time permits, racking up a total of 1,887 miles on the NCNST to date. He plans to complete the Finger Lakes Trail in New York by the end of summer 2024. Randall is from Cleveland, Ohio and currently resides in Strongsville, Ohio with his wife Beth. Randall is a veteran of the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps where he served 12 years on active duty and nine years in the Navy Reserves, including one deployment to Iraq. He is currently employed by the City of Oberlin as their City Engineer. He is a board member of the Buckeye Trail Association (BTA) and Chairman of his local Crooked River Chapter of the BTA.
• Carol Wozniak will join in the presentation to represent the Michigander perspective of hiking in Ohio! She has completed hiking the entire upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan and has also become an avid hiker of the Buckeye Trail section of the NCNST, covering about half of the 900+ Ohio miles to date. Carol has tallied a total of 2,230 miles of the NCNST, including miles from Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, and the entirety of Wisconsin, and intends to complete the entire 4,800 miles! She has been an active member of the NCTA Hiawatha Shore-to-Shore (HSS) Chapter since 2016, hailing from the Sault Ste. Marie area.
