May 15th–Karnak to Sibley Hike

Meet at Rosebud Visitor Center at 9:30 AM or parking lot west of the Karnak Bridge at 10:00 AM for this 2.5 hour hike along Lake Ashtabula.  After the hike will will plan to eat at Sibley (Dutch Treat) for those interested or you can ride back to Valley City.  We will car pool from Rosebud Visitor Center and plan to have cars staying for the lunch in Sibley and a car going back immediately following the hike (if some prefer to do this).  We will return to Valley City by early afternoon for those choosing to eat at Sibley.

June 5th – National Trails Day at Fort Ransom State Park

This is a reminder that the SRV Chapter has extensive plans all day at Fort Ransom State Park for National Trails Day. We will have a brown bag lunch (Dutch Treat- provided by each individual) that day for lunch but will coordinate grilling for the evening meal at the park.  At this time we need to you to think about two additional options that require advance reservations and respond to Clyde Anderson with your plans. Clyde’s e-mail address is andy4@ictc.com (or call 701-633-5287).

Canoeing on the Sheyenne River

1)  The first item is in regards to how many canoes to reserve for the afternoon 3-4 hour canoe trip  down the Sheyenne River.  Each person will be responsible for the cost of the canoe rental fee. Please let Clyde know if you want to reserve a space for you for this event.  Clyde will coordinate this with John Kwapinski at the Fort Ransom State Park.

Tent camping

2) The second item is in regards to camping at Fort Ransom State Park. We are thinking of reserving an area for our group so we are all close together.  Many have expressed interest in camping on Saturday night but some are also interested in camping on Friday night.  Please let Clyde know if you plan to camp Friday night, Saturday night or both.  We are assuming most will be in tents but if you want special accommodations, let Clyde know.

Since both of the above require reservations at the Fort Ransom State Park, please RSVP by May 23rd to Clyde so he can make the necessary arrangements.

On June 5th the Trails Day events begin with a 10:00 am hike at the Fort Ransom State Park lead by Park staff. Car poolers will depart at 9:20 am from Rosebud Visitor Center but before departing they will coordinate who is staying to camp and who will return late in the day.

Deb looks forward to seeing folks on May 15th and June 5th.  These should be two fun events for their hard-working chapter!!

Happy Summer Hiking,
