This is our Spring Trail Improvement Day! Here is a day to give back to the trail we all love to use! You have never worked so FUN and we have a tool that will fit your hand.

We have a few things that need to be accomplished at the overlook, spreading some gravel on the trail where it descends the hill and moving some material up the hill that is left over from the project. The gravel will come from a pile off FS 3150. Also off 3150, we may be able to move some gravel to a location on the trail there that needs to be firmed up. There are a couple of signs that could be placed south of that area, as well. Other maintenance activities in the area could take place depending on the number of volunteers. The amount of work is such that your efforts are needed and will be greatly appreciated!

Tasks will include shoveling, hauling and spreading gravel, moving treated lumber up a hill with a rope and a sled, hauling gravel into the woods where it is needed off FS 3150 and spreading it there, possibly installing a drain or two under the trail as well.

The Naomikong Overlook is found on the Curley Lewis Highway. There is a parking lot on the south side of the road where we will gather. The overlook is 7.5 miles east of M-123 on the Curley Lewis Highway (the Whitefish Bay Scenic Byway). Also the overlook is 12 miles west of the corner of Ranger Road and Lakeshore Drive at the Dollar Settlement.

Bring clothing that can get dirty, work gloves and a second pair, solid footwear, water, a snack or a lunch, and a friend! We will provide the trail tools necessary to do the work. Come for the morning, the afternoon, or all day. If you won’t be there in the morning, please let us know your plans the day before so you can find us if we move to the second location. After the work day we will gather at a nearby location for refueling and refreshment.

We will need to record your name and contact information. Questions? Comments? Text Tom Walker at 906-322-2617. Cell phone service is spotty along the trail so there may not be an answer the day of the event.
